Forest business community has asked for help from the Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, during the inter-regional meeting of leaders of unions and associations, which was held in St. Petersburg.
According gorzakaz.org, in the recent years the forestry community is concerned about the results of forest management. Specifically, the biggest dissatisfaction is the new Forest Code, that the forestry community described as “controversial”. As one example – the cancellation of sales contracts that restricted access to the forest for small businesses and as a consequence – the loss of tens of thousands of jobs in Russia.
Another big problem for the forestry business community are the customs duties on export of aspen and birch wood.
