The fire from the forests, like those that happened in Haute-Mauricie are devastating on the economical field, bit also for the population which are victims.
Although, on ecological field, the fire means “a natural, welcomed phenomenon”, explains Claude Beauchesne, forestry engineer and regional director of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Fauna, because it allows the forest to rebuild. “There are seeds on the ground that do not die”. Also, “there are vegetable forestry species like the gray pine and the black spruce that depend on fire for living”, he added.
“In the case of the gray pine, once the fire is off, the heat allows the opening of the cones, the seeds are falling and if the positions is the right one, these ones germinate”, shows Mr. Beauchesne. Despite the view apparently desolated, a whole world begins to reborn from the forest after the fire is extinguished. “In 2-3 weeks, we should see the first green offshoot” of the decorative grasses”, relates Mr. Beauchesne.
It is true that the fire make also victims between the animals from the forest. But, many little mammals survive the fire if they succeed to hide in the den, covered from the strong heat.
