There are aproximately 1000 species and 50 families of Bamboo. Their lenght varies from as high as grass up to 36 metres high and 35 cm thick. Bamboo can be found almost anywhere – by the seaside or in the mountains. Although the species are very different, they share a common quality – lightness and hardness, which make it so popular.
What amases is its ability to grow very fast. A Japanese scientist from the Honshu Island astonished by demonstrating that a bambus of the Madake family can grow 120 cm in 24 hours. Japanese people even have a saying: „If you listen carrefully, you can hear the bambus growing.” The Chinese were the first to appreciate the bambus not only for its beauty but also for its utility. They were the first to use it in constructions.
Most species blossom rarely, in 30, 60 or 120 years.
Wherever they might be planted, they always blossom at the same time. |
