Indoor finishings in wooden houses

The problem of interior finishings must be established simultaneously with the construction of the house. Modern finishing materials, such as PVC, wallpaper, paint, tiles etc can be applied on indoor walls, on the ceiling or on the floor. The utilisation of these material would destroy the unicity and naturaless of a log house. Usually, in these type of houses, the characteristics of natural wood are underlined indoors, inspiring warmth and comfort. Thus, the utilisation of modern finishing materials is unsual, these being apropriate for modern constructions. These materials can be used in individual rooms of functional areas like: kitchens or bathrooms.
In order to suit log houses, finishing materials should be chosen from a range of natural colours (stone, wood or brick colour).
Fireplaces, stairs and furniture are the main elements in log houses. Usually, the fireplace is the central axis around which all the other elements must be displayed. Thus, constructors, architects and designers „invest” all their imagination in displaying the furniture. Presently, fireplaces are available in a variety of materials, shapes and sizes. Thus, the rationality and practicality of applying the correct model becomes essential.
Stairs
Stairs have a great accent inside a house. Usually, they are made out of wood, with railing, and having different shapes and sizes. They can also be made out of metal or glass. In the end, all that matters is the final look inside the house, as well as their relationship with the other elements.
In traditional log houses, living rooms are placed at the ground floor, the bedrooms at the upper floor. In this case, the presence of stairs is necessary. With a little attention to composition and design, stairs can become the focus point inside the house.
They become a vertical ax, around which the room’s furniture is aranged at the ground floor and upstrairs. In the case of traditional houses with a gable roof and attic, the stairs are usually placed in the centre of the house, in the living-room.
With a correct choice of the stairs’s location and shape, storage spaces can be created. Thus, the space underneath them can be used for displaying decorative elements.
In last generation constructions, stairs have a laconic design, with emphasis on clear structures. Thus, the exageration of a simplistic design is not reccomandated. Sometimes, stairs are not given the proper attention. Because of lack of funding, stairs can be too steep, without railing and unpractical, not to mention the risk factor involved.
Living-room furniture
Living – rooms always attract special attention and investments. Presently, leather tapistry is very popular, but floral models are supposed to make a major comeback.
A certain interest in osier furniture is also noticeble today.
Kitchen furniture
To avoid synthetic materials, the ordering if solid wood or sawdust board kitchen furniture is reccomended.
The kitchen table top creates difficulties. The ones made out of wood are very expensive, while the wooden ones are not durable if used for a longer period of time. In this case, the utilisation of laminated table tops is reccomended, in neutral or stone colours.
In wooden mountain houses, „rustic kitchens” are popular, the central element here being the ceramic tiles. This type of furniture is practical and relative cheap, but it requires more space than the standard kitchen furniture.
Bedrooms
For bedrooms the reccomandated furniture is made out of pine, oak or ash. It does not only suit a wooden house atmosphere, but it also creates a healthy microclimate. Furniture, railings and interior accesories painted in metallical colours are also very popular. These contrast with the yellow colour of the wood, they are practical and not very expensive. Holiday house furniture A wooden vacation house means nature association, relaxation. Thus, their construction without a rocking chairs placed in front of the fire place, a bench or hamac on the porch, is difficult. Special attention must be paid to the quality of this furnishings. The cheaper alternative must not be chosen because of its reduced sustainability which can cause them to brake at any moment.
