The Union for Constructions, Forestry, Mining and Energy (CFMEU) warns the wood industry of Western Australia that the harvesting rate is much higher than the replantation's. The direct consequence is a iminent collapse of the industry.
The union's representatives are seeking a meeting with the prime minister Colin Barnett, stating that urgent interventions are needed in this situation.
Michael O'Connor, secretary of CFMEU declares that a large number of jobs in this sector are being risked, needlessly."The harvesting level does not allow a sustainable replantation. The rates are 30% higher."
Yet, the rhythm of the cuttings is supported by the atitude of the authorities.
Michael O'Connor adds: "The current situation will lead to a crisis in this industry. A government intervention is urgent."
