Canada - Quebec: forest industry in numbers

Among the remarkable countries for the wood industry of the whole world, Canada is one for which it is necessary to pay more attention.

First of all, Quebec is a symbol as well by its surface, as by the multitude, the variety and the richness of the resources, among which the forest is one of most important, a collective good which occupies 90 % of public surface. The various sectors of the forest production have each one a well- determined role and a very important one for the economic and social development of the area.

Regarding the whitewood sector, there are 300 factories which consume more than 10.000m3 of wood / year and, in this direction, this sector can offer more than 20 000 direct employments. For the woodworking and exploitation hardwood sector, Quebec is placed on the first place of the Canadian provinces by ensuring 65% of the Canadian production. The industry of the paper mill is also very important and the production of commercial articles, newspaper, different kinds of paper and paperboards reaches figures of millions tons from one year to another.

More than 40 000 workers from Quebec find an employment in one of tens of sawmills distributed in more than 200 municipalities where they constitute the main employer. In conclusion, in Quebec the forest industry is not only a tradition, but also a way of living, a symbol of the existence in itself.
