During the last
years, the Canadian Industry of saw log remained profitable, in spite of
the challenges of various economic and commercial pressures.
Thus, since
2000, the number of jobs from the industry fell a lot, but, which is
surprising is the force with which it was restructured thanks to the
development of the labour productivity. These favorable aspects and a
rather considerable growth of the prices of saw log and the incomes coming
from the exploitation, undoubtedly contributed to the maintenance of the
economic indices favorable and comparable with those of 1999-2005. The
challenges to which industry had to face are not negligible: the
canado-American Agreement on the saw log and the imposition of antidumping
duties and compensation by the United States, the rise of the prices of
energy and the raw material, the fall of the prices of saw log and the
rise of the rate of exchange of the Canadian dollar.
What must be
retained is the rise of the production and the production of work
especially under such conditions, which shows that one has still much more
to say regarding the future of the wood industry, in general. |
