The standardisation in the wood industry

The objectives of the standardisation activity:

  • to create and develop a favorable medium in the quality and products certification domain, of the services and the quality-medium-security management systems

  • to grow the companies competitiveness

  • to create and develop the appropriate medium for the production of the products/services in such way they could be integrated on the EU market.

What is the standard?

The standard is a document, established by mutual agreement and approved by an authorised organism, that offers, for comun and constant use, rules or characteristics for activities or their results, in order to obtain an optimal level of order in a given situation.

The standardisation in the wood industry exists for the following sectors:
  • round wood and timber

  • wooden boards

  • the hardness of the wooden products and of the wooden products to the biological agents

  • furniture,

referring to:
  • terminology

  • classification

  • conditions

  • product specification

  • performance level

  • testing methods.

The standardisation in the wood industry and of the wooden products is recognised as a strategic instrument, delivering on the market standards which are establishing, very clearly, the products/services characteristics according to their final use or their object, and also permits a trusting factor between different actors (constructors, architects, research institutes, companies, consumers etc.) to be established again.

The standard represents a transparency instrument on the public markets. In our time, on our competitive market, in order to be able to well choose a supplier and to obtain a high quality product/service, the buyer has the interest to qoute in the public offers:

  • one standard or standards defining the products/service;

  • qualified human and material means;

  • a quality assurance system according to ISO 9000 standards.

The advantages of using the standards:
  • the interconnectivity of the sectors, the simplification, which involves the costs reduction;

  • the promotion of global communication systems;

  • the uniformity of the testing methods used in the laboratoires;

  • the pollution reduction;

  • the bureaucracy reduction;

  • the growth of the trust level of the users.
