The crisis of the forest industry of Quèbec is being accentuated
The Union of the municipalities of Quèbec is very worried by the crisis, which currently forest industry in Quèbec saw. Stressing that several industrial mono municipalities are seriously affected by this crisis, the mayors ask the government of Quèbec to imply the municipalities in the development of solutions for the future of the forest.
The president of the UMQ, Jean Perrault, affirms that the decision of the forest company Commonwealth Plywood to close 18 factories has a domino effect on other companies and thus even on several municipalities. Mr. Perrault estimates that there are much more than 1200 direct jobs, which will be touched by these closings.
UMQ is very determined in this approach and requires a fast joint action before the crisis is not accentuated.
