Expo Forestal 2018 - Biodiversity, Technology, Productivity

Expo Forestal 2018 - Biodiversity, Technology, Productivity
CONAFOR, the National Mexican Forestry Commission will present EXPO FORESTAL October 10-12, 2018 in Guadalajara/Mexico. With the key topics BIODIVERSITY, TECHNOLOGY and PRODUCTIVITY the 2018 event will showcase latest products and services, technology and machinery from all aspects of the forestry sector, from conservation and reforestation to product marketing.

Last event: EXPO FORESTAL 2016 attracted 206 exhibiting companies and international country pavilions from Germany, Sweden and USA.  From more than 10.000 visitors the international portion came from 17 countries, for example out of Europe, USA, Canada and Latin America. A total of 2.298 people attended keynote speeches, thematic panel discussions and forestry talks as part of the Technical program.

Mexico`s forestry sector represents great business opportunities for Swedish companies! Sweden is a strong producer and exporter of paper, pulp and sawn timber - which Mexico imports the most. So far the export share from Sweden to Mexico within forestry is low - here lies a lot of potential for Swedish companies that want to increase their international revenues.

In 2015 Mexico had a deficit of 6,19 BUSD in timber, pulp & paper products so imports are needed! The majority of virgin fiber inputs are imported from American and European markets. Due to the region`s sensitivity to climate change effects, the Mexican government has set objectives to ensure a sustainable development within forestry and improve reforestation. The aim is to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions as well as to decrease the trade deficit. Sustainable forestry has enormous economic potential, it is estimated that 15 million hectares of woodland meet the economic, social and infrastructure conditions for sustainable use, although only 7,5 million hectares are currently used for this purpose.

Forest production in Mexico has fluctuated in recent years, without sustainable growth. In the last 5 years the forestry sector has shown an annual growth rate of 2,86 %. Wood industry accounts for 59 % of the sectors share; cellulose, paper and carton for 41 %. Pine is the most exploited species in Mexico with 70% of the total production.

CONAFOR, The National Forestry Commission is the agency in charge of modernizing the Mexican forestry sector and supports the implementation of projects for production, industrialization and commercialization of forest products.

Participate at EXPO FORESTAL 2018 and get in contact with important people of the Mexican forestry industry!
